This brooch measures approximately 1 & 1/4ths inches in diameter and is an older Victorian piece as evident by the pin extending well pass the brooch and the older hardware in the pin and clasp.

Mother of pearl brooches that were personalized with the owner’s name such as this one above were popular in Victorian and Edwardian times. However, I have seen some mop name brooches that date from as late as the 1930′s early 40′s. Typically the gold wire is not karat gold and is usually gold fill. Besides being personalized with names, brooches with “Mother” on them can be commonly found.
